This type of Assembly called Pressure Vacuum Breaker is ideal for lawn sprinkler and must be installed to correct height for the system.
A Double Check Valve Assembly can be installed below ground for low hazard applications and must be installed so testing can be performed.
Idaho considers underground Lawn Sprinkler system a High Hazard. This Assembly cannot be installed for such use.
A Reduced Pressure Zone Assembly is for low and high hazard and requires drainage. This assembly must be installed with 12 inches of bottom clearance for drainage and repairs.
A Pressure Vacuum Breaker must be installed with critical level 12" above the highest outlet in the system.
Double Checks installed below ground must be kept from being buried. There should be free air all around Assembly for testing and repairs.
An Atmosphere Vacuum Breaker such as this cannot be installed with valves down stream. And cannot be tested. If you have this type you should have it inspected for proper installation.
